Sensei Alden Mather
Chief Instructor, 3rd degree black belt
Sensei Alden is Chief Instructor at Kyoshin-Ryu Dojo and has been studying Shotokan karate for over 25 years. He is a full time karate instructor, active competitor and took over the dojo founded by his Grandfather Hanshi Jim Mather in 2022.

Renshi Helena Catolico
Instructor, 5th degree black belt 

Renshi Helena began her training under Hanshi Jim Mather in 2002. She has always been interested in health and fitness and enjoys teaching Saturday classes at the dojo. Helena is a pharmacist and certified yoga instructor. She enjoys staying active and spending time with family.

Renshi Marbel Catolico 
Instructor, 5th degree black belt 

Renshi Marbel began training under Hanshi Jim Mather in 1998. He teaches the adult and childrens' classes on Saturdays at Kyoshin-Ryu. Marbel is a pharmacist with over 25 years in the biotech industry and enjoys listening to jazz and spending time with family.

Sensei Davis Catolico 
Instructor, 1st degree black belt 

Sensei Davis has been studying Shotokan karate for over 20 years and serves as an instructor at Kyoshin-Ryu Dojo. After a successful collegiate track and field career at Claremont McKenna College, Davis has returned to the Bay Area to resume training, competing in, and teaching karate.
